"What are you doing for others?" - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Honor the spirit of service throughout 2012 by volunteering through the YMCA.
Here are a few ideas to get you involved :
1. Read to a child. Community Hope is a literacy mentoring program that brings volunteer mentors together with at-risk students in their communities. It asks for one hour a week.
2. Coach a child. All Y youth sports teams are coached by volunteers. As we serve more than 5,000 children in our youth sports programs, that’s a lot of dedicated volunteers. Whether you played pick up on the playground, lettered in high school, or were first-string in college, we could sure use you now.
3.Play with a child. Does your high school student need community service hours? Y After School programs and Y Family programs will put your energy to good use.
4. Be a mentor. Everyone needs someone to look up to. Could you be that someone a teenager looks up too? Being a mentor within the Y teen programs is a great way to make a difference and help local teens become community leaders themselves. Y teens participate in service projects, leadership training and social responsibility.
5. Help your community. All Ys need general volunteers to help with light office work and greet members and guests.
All Ys rely on volunteers. If you see an interesting program, but it’s not convenient for you, please visit the Contact Us page to contact your Y.
Let’s make 2012 better together.
